[Bug 1442634] [NEW] samba problems with character encoding (umlauts)

Public bug reported:

We running 2 samba servers as AD domain controllers.
We have some users with umlauts in their names registered in AD.

First samba server is on debian with version 4.1.17. It is the master server.
Second samba server runs on Ubuntu trusty (14.04.2 LTS) with version 4.1.6 (latest updates installed). This one is the slave server.

If a user with an umlaut want's to login from a Windows 7 client to the second DC, he get an access denied message.
On command prompt on second DC:
 samba-tool user list
returns all users except this with an umlaut in the name.
 samba-tool dbcheck
results with several errors in db. All errors depends on users with umlauts.

The same commands on the first DC with samba 4.1.17 doesn't result with errors or missing user accounts.
Replication also works fine.

So we do an upgrade to utopic (14.10) with samba 4.1.11.
There are no problems with this version.
Dbcheck and user listing works fine and it is possible to authenticate from a Windows 7 client.

So it is not possible to use the samba 4.1.6 line in ubuntu trusty with
users containing umlauts in their names.

** Affects: samba (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
