Re: [Question #269269]: Is Samba 4.2.x coming to Wily? (4.1 is now EOL.)

Question #269269 on samba in Ubuntu changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+question/269269

Manfred Hampl proposed the following answer:
The message "Samba 4.1.19 Available for Download. This is the last
stable release of the Samba 4.1 series." does NOT mean that 4.1 is EOL.

The version 4.1 is now in maintenance mode:
"Maintenance mode means that there are regular bug fix releases to address major issues and security issues. Less patches are backported to this branch than to the current release series."

Ubuntu is taking over most packages from Debian. The Debian stable, unstable and testing releases are currently delivering the same version of samba as Ubuntu Wily (2:4.1.17)
There are already two bug reports in Debian with the request to update to 4.1.18 or 4.2.1+ https://bugs.debian.org/787772 and https://bugs.debian.org/787773

I suppose that the Ubuntu packagers for samba will wait for Debian to
create an updated package, and then they most probably will adapt that
one to Ubuntu specifics.

I assume that the bug report that you have already created will help.
