[Bug 721819] Re: if kernel module psb is loaded before one launches X, get a blank screen

Since I have to reboot the box to fix once I get the blank screen
(unless you have some trick?) I'll have to get back to a location where
I can remote ssh and launch X before I can report back to you about the
X logfile. However, your comment makes me suspect you might have
misunderstood my bug report. Let me just rephrase it to be clear:

First, I do not use gdm/xdm/whatever.

So, from a clean boot (no psb or drm_psb kernel module loaded yet; hence
no framebuffer) I can do one of two things.

(1) If I type startx, then it loads X which then loads the psb and
drm_psb kernel modules. Everything works great. I can operate in X
just fine and if I do a ctl-alt-F1 the console is now in a nice
resolution framebuffer.

(2) If I type modprobe psb from the console (before I run startx), I get
a nice resolution and a good ol' framebuffer. If I then type startx, it
attempts to start X and I get a blank screen with a single white
underscore in the upper left hand corner. Here, I have to remote ssh in
and shutdown -r now beause I can't get a console back even if I kill X.

Clear as mud? I'll post the X.log from (2) once I get home!

that pretty much sums it up; if i don't load psb before I launch X,
then it works great; I even have framebuffer on console when i switch
back to console. i'm surprised nobody would have reported this.
