Using EMGD 1.10 and kwin 4.7 (but only the GLES version from kde-window-
manager-gles) this problem is fixed.

I get about 10 fps on a 1920x1080 screen which is to slow to really use
(fitpc connected to TV).

On netbook resolutions it might be fast enough, I didn't test.
