[Bug 1721985] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 vanilla Gnome gone
The Ubuntu GNOME team announced when Ubuntu GNOME 17.04 was released
that users would be upgraded to regular Ubuntu when upgrading to 17.10
or 18.04 LTS. We feel this is the best option for the majority of our
users.
You can install gnome-session and click GNOME from the gear button on
the log in screen.
If you want more core GNOME apps and a similar experience to Ubuntu
GNOME, install vanilla-gnome-desktop.

Title:
Ubuntu 17.10 vanilla Gnome gone
Status in ubuntu-gnome-meta package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
I've installed Ubuntu 17.10 and then run apt-get install ubuntu-gnome-
desktop to get the vanilla Gnome (sorry guys, I do not like the
changes imposed by Ubuntu).
On 2017-09-28, after running dist-upgrade, several packages from the
vanilla Gnome were removed, including wallpapers.
