This seems to be a recurring problem. The same issue (lack of 32-bit
libs) is present in the 565.77 PPA package.
Is it official policy to try to *not* include the 32-bit libraries in
the PPA packages, or is it simply not tested? There really needs to be
a checklist with this included - as it's probably generating a bunch of
submitted problems to nVidia from users who think the PPA installs the
complete driver files.
The issue becomes immediately evident if you play nearly any games via
Steam. Surprisingly, many still start... but will run at 1/10th the
normal frame rate. I noticed this with Left4Dead and CS:S right after
installing the latest PPA package (the were running at 14fps instead of
150+).
As a workaround (so that I don't have to uninstall the PPA and can keep
testing future updates) I downloaded the nVidia package, extracted the
32-bit libraries to my own directory, added it to the ld includes, and
reran ldconfig - immediately fixing the horrible frame rates.
Thanks,
J
