Oh, and get rid of that XFS! Use ext4. Small file performance on XFS is
horrendous. I think that alone will show you a huge win. I was doing a
LAN copy of 4TB of like a million files over ssh not too long ago, onto
a single spindle XFS target, and it was going to take 2 weeks. Disk util
was 100% and doing like 3MB/sec. Reformatted to ext4 and it took less
than a day.
