I wouldn't expect any significant difference between the filesystems
when it comes to a few thousand symlinks but it might be because of
over-utilization on the RAID 10 machine. If iostat shows your
utilization % to be > 70 or 80 I'd suggest tuning MAX_UPDATES_PER_SECOND
lowering it until your utilization is ~50% but not so low that your
cache fills up.
