This seems to get me a couple of steps further:

# cp /opt/graphite/conf/graphite.wsgi.example /opt/graphite/webapp/graphite/graphite_wsgi.py
# cd /opt/graphite/webapp/graphite
# gunicorn graphite_wsgi:application &
