Discovered this by accident, it is a minor issue. This error message occurs when hitting the preview button or update preview button and one (or all?) of the images have been deleted in the meanwhile from disk.
Somehow a more detailed error message would be useful such as 'could not open image ###'
Using 2014 beta 1 on Ubuntu Precise 64bit.
