I managed to switch between the Intel and ATI adapter with the help of 
vgaswitcheroo (upowering the unused card).  I can launch  Xorg either with the 
intel or the free radeon driver. But the radeon driver does not yet support 
acceleration for the HD 5650 cards, so I am stuck with the intel driver.

I really hope ATI will address this issue with one of the next fglrx releases, 
also I fear the worst since ATI will release Optimus in the near future.

I contacted the free radeon driver team and they are currently working through 
the recently released specs of the HD 5650. Hopefully, we will see proper 
support in radeon, mabe even before fglrx fixes this issue.

BTW: Do you also have the issue that display backlight controls are not 
working? This also may be related to the switchable graphics. I described the 
issue here: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=621524
