I have been able to follow the info in the Fedora forum posting to 
disable nvidia and only use the Intel card, with a significant drop in 
power consumption with the NVidia card turned off (thanks especially to 
docdrow for spelling that out so clearly):

Though the forum is for Fedora, with a few minor differences I have it 
working under openSuSE 11.3.

But it appears everyone is now stuck trying to actually _use_ the Nvidia 
card.

Is this still the case for everyone?

Is there still is not any way to enable the Nvidia to actually be used 
yet?  

Is there a way to enable 3d support for the Intel video card at least?
