laptop recommendations?

Hi all,

I'm an OpenGL programmer, looking to purchase a laptop that will perform well in OpenGL under Linux. I'm wondering if anyone could provide some simple recommendations for a laptop to purchase. I just recently bought a Dell Inspiron 15r (Radeon HD 6470M and Intel HD 3000), and it has been a nightmare trying to get OpenGL to run on the AMD. (As far as I understand it from reading forum posts, the 6470M is not yet supported by the open source driver, and since I have no BIOS switch to turn off integrated graphics, the current fglrx driver will only function as a power-manager at best?) In order to get X to start up without crashing, I had to blacklist the radeon driver -- so I'm left with using the (slow!) Intel driver.

It's early enough that I can easily return the laptop to Dell and purchase another -- but the question is, what currently available model would be easiest to configure, while giving good performance? I'm happy to go with either AMD or NV, and I don't mind using the BIOS to switch off the integrated chip. (This laptop will almost always be connected to AC power, so I'm not worried about power management.) It has been difficult to get information on working systems that I can actually purchase, since they're all so new...

It's easiest if I can order from Dell, but I'd consider another manufacturer.

Thanks in advance for any help! In exchange, I'm happy to perform experiments on my current setup and report the results, if this is of interest to the group.
