[Bug 828628] Re: WL: MARIA DB (5.2 or 5.3)

Hello Geoffrey,

Thank you for your request.

MariaDB seems like a good addition for EPEL as it is not in Enterprise
Linux base:

   * EPEL provides additional packages which are not already included in
EL

It would not fit the IUS model as we package replacement packages for
EL:

   * Packages such as php52 to replace EL's base php and mysql55 to
replace EL's mysql

What I would suggest for you is to contact the MariaDB team and see if they feel the software
stable enough to be added to EPEL:

    http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL

Thanks

Title:
WL: MARIA DB (5.2 or 5.3)

Status in IUS Community Project:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
DESCRIPTION: MariaDB is a database server that offers drop-in
replacement functionality for MySQL. MariaDB is built by some of the
original authors of MySQL, with assistance from the broader community
of Free and open source software developers. In addition to the core
functionality of MySQL, MariaDB offers a rich set of feature
enhancements including alternate storage engines, server
  optimizations, and patches.

REASON: Because Mysql is been bought by Oracle / Sun the question
rises if Mysql will still be supported as opensource. MariaDB is from
the developper from Mysql. Drupal also advices to uses Maria DB as
database. It will be a great addition to the IUS community.
