Bug description:
  DESCRIPTION:PEAR::MDB2 is a merge of the PEAR::DB and Metabase php database abstraction
  layers. It provides a common API for all supported RDBMS. The main difference to most
  other DB abstraction packages is that MDB2 goes much further to ensure
  portability.

  REASON: php-pear-MDB2-2.4.1 is incompatible with php 5.3 due to:
  PHP Deprecated:  Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /usr/share/pear/MDB2.php on line 390
  PHP Deprecated:  Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /usr/share/pear/MDB2.php on line 1886
  PHP Deprecated:  Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /usr/share/pear/MDB2.php on line 2573
  PHP Deprecated:  Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /usr/share/pear/MDB2.php on line 2596
  PHP Deprecated:  Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /usr/share/pear/MDB2.php on line 2941

  It needs updated to 2.5.0b3 which I can confirm fixes this.  I'm
  currently using the rpm from
  http://rpms.famillecollet.com/enterprise/5/remi/x86_64/php-pear-
  MDB2-2.5.0-0.3.b3.el5.remi.noarch.rpm as a workaround.
