Many thanks for your prompt answer.

There were no segfaults with the same code on stock PHP 5.3.3.  It
appeared after upgrading to PHP 5.4.11.

I just tried the same on a clean CentOS 6.4 box with no previous PHP
installed and it happens there as well.

If you experience the same issue I will open up a ticket with PHP for
this bug.
