update is available for your BIOS (2003). If you update to this, does it
change anything?

If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

  Creating a copy operation puts the system unusable until its done

  When creating a copy of a folder with 820 items, totalling 158,1 GB
  from one harddrive to another where the system is installed puts the
  system literally unusable until it's done, firefox web-browsing is
  next to impossible.
