[Bug 1156314] Re: [Lenovo IdeaPad U300s] Trackpad detected as PS/2 Generic Mouse
Hi-
Thanks for the suggestion. I don't know how/if I can apply the update,
since I don't have windows installed and hadn't updated the BIOS prior
to removing windows.
This problem still persists, even though I've updated to RR 13.04,
although with slightly different symptoms. The touchpad is detected as
"SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" (command: xinput list) even when it is
frozen instead of PS/2 Generic. It seems like I can now *sometimes*
solve the problem and can get the trackpad to work by putting the
computer to sleep and waking it. However, on other occassions, shutting
the computer down and restarting repeatedly doesn't do anything - and
will sometimes even result in my not being able to use the keyboard
and/or click with an external usb mouse (even though I can move the
mouse with an external usb mouse).
The output to the set of dmidecode commands is:

Title:
[Lenovo IdeaPad U300s] Trackpad detected as PS/2 Generic Mouse
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
My Lenovo U300s Trackpad usually does not work (anymore). Sometimes it has full functionality, and all of a sudden it will not cease responding to any input, and I cannot correlate these events to anything. I see that the trackpad is detected as a PS/2 Generic Mouse in these cases. The problem does not solve itself on reboot, but seems to solve itself at random. The duty cycle of the problem's occurance has increased from maybe 10% to 80% of the time I use the laptop. Using an external mouse is a hassle. Attached are outputs and files from:
dmesg
/proc/bus/input/devices
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
/proc/version_signature
lspci -vnvn
lsb_release -rd
apt-cache policy linux
Please, please advise. Thank you.
