Title:
LAN and USB ports affected with 64bit OS only.
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Built a new rig to run a 64bit Bodhi Linux install. The new machine
has a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev 3.0) mobo, FX4100 proc, Live 64bit
Bodhi CD and noticed that I could not get to the internet. Spent a
while determining that the network and my ISP were in working order.
Rebooted the machine with 12.04 Ubuntu (64bit) live dvd and same
thing. Tried several other distros until I found an Xubuntu version
that worked. However, after working with it for a while, I found that
it was a 32bit version not a 64 bit. So I tested this with several
32bit vs. 64bit. It appears that I cannot get LAN ports or most of
the 2.0 ports and none of the 3.0 USB ports with a 64bit install of
every distro that I tried (about 7 different distros, including Fedora
and OpenSUSE). With a 32bit version, everything works great. All
ports are available and the LAN works flawlessly.
All distros recognize all the equipment and controllers the same. The
Realtek 8169 driver is used in both 32bit and 64bit kernels. I am
stumped as to why 64bit runs differently (and incorrectly) on my 64bit
system but the 32bit system works perfectly.
