[Bug 1040053] Re: [Dell XPS 15 L502X] no HDMI support with dual grafic card in Ubuntu 12.04LTS with 3.2.0-29-generic

ok, you are right. there is a new bios version.

$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
A11
05/29/2012

After upgrade:
$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
A12
09/07/2012

I updated and booted the live image, it is the same as before.

The screen is recognized after the second hdmi cable plugin try.

using
xrandr --auto

activates VGA-1, after I saw this
http://www0.xup.in/exec/ximg.php?fid=13581600

I deactivated VGA-1 with "xrandr --output VGA-1 --off", the most artefacts are gone.
But it is still slow on dual screen and I can not change to the notebook screen (is is frozen) or the screen is cloned.

Title:
  [Dell XPS 15 L502X] no HDMI support with dual grafic card in Ubuntu
  12.04LTS with 3.2.0-29-generic

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I have a DELL XPS 15 L502x notebook with intel HD and Nvidia GeForce GT 540M graphic card.
  installed:
  Ubuntu 12.04LTS with 3.2.0-29-generic, newest nvidia driver with bumblebee

  The HDMI port is not working.

  $ cat /proc/version_signature

  $ lspci -v | perl -ne '/VGA/../^$/ and /VGA|Kern/ and print'

  $ dpkg --status nvidia-current | grep Version

  second monitor is plugged in on HDMI but is not recognized:

  $ xrandr
  Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1366 x 768, maximum 8192 x 8192
  LVDS1 connected 1366x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 194mm
     1366x768       60.1*+
     1360x768       59.8     60.0
     1024x768       60.0
     800x600        60.3     56.2
     640x480        59.9
  VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

  A indirect solution is to connect the monitor on the mini DP
  connector over a DP adapter:

  $ xrandr
  Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 3286 x 1080, maximum 8192 x 8192
  LVDS1 connected 1366x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 194mm
     1366x768       60.1*+
     1360x768       59.8     60.0
     1024x768       60.0
     800x600        60.3     56.2
     640x480        59.9
  VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  HDMI1 connected 1920x1080+1366+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 477mm x 269mm
     1920x1080      59.9*+   60.0
     1680x1050      60.0
     1280x1024      75.0     60.0
     1280x960       75.0
     1152x864       75.0
     1280x720       75.0
     1024x768       75.1     60.0
     800x600        75.0     60.3
     640x480        75.0     60.0
     720x400        70.1
  DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

  I hope this could be fixed. Not everybody can use the DP port.
