Title:
Hibernation throws ecryptfs_encrypt_page errors on Latitude E5420
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
How to repeat:
I've installed Ubuntu 11.10 on a Dell Latitude E5420. My machine has
an encrypted home directory, and /home is mounted from a different
partition on the same hard drive: this might be relevant.
I prompy my laptop to hibernate by pressing the power button and
selecting "Hibernate".
What should happen:
The machine should go into hibernation and then poweroff. When I
restart it, my session should be remembered.
What actually happens:
Hibernation gets so far and then throws anywhere between a couple and
over a dozen errors of the form:
[XXXX.XX] ecryptfs_encrypt_page: Error attempting to write lower page;
rc = [-Y]
where XXXX.XX is a dmesg-like timestamp and Y is some small integer.
These errors appear on a text-only screen i.e. X seems to have already
shut down.
The machine then hangs. When I power cycle it (holding power button
down for 5 seconds then restarting) it starts very quickly -
suggesting it is coming out of hibernation - but my session has been
forgotten. There are no open browser windows or applications.
More information:
As I don't know exactly what package might be causing this bug then I can't be sure what information to provide, but let me know what diagnostics I can run.
