[Bug 1216753] Re: No WiFi - Lenova IdealCentre Q190 Model 57312246
Lonnie Lee Best, as per http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/info
/kernel-version-map.html Ubuntu 3.8.0-19.29 is based on upstream 3.8.8,
so you would not be using a kernel greater than 3.10.
Hence, could you please confirm this issue exists with the latest
development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If the issue remains,
could you please run the following command in the development release
from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will
automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this
report:
apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>
Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER
where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc5
This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing
If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER
As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.
** Description changed:
I just purchased a Lenova IdealCentre Q190 Model 57312246, which comes
with Windows 8 installed.
Using Windows 8, the computer's built-in Wi-Fi card works fine, but
after installing Ubuntu 13.04 (and fully updating), I'm unable to detect
this wifi card in any manner I've tried.
- The Lenova website simply says that this PC came with at "Broadcom 11b/g/n Wi-Fi wireless":
-
- So far, I haven't been able to detect the exact model of the wi-fi card;
- I've tried a few hardware detection commands after installing Ubuntu,
- but none of them seem to be able to detect that the wi-fi adapter is
- even there:

- I've also tried lsusb -v. That one is kind of long, so I'll attach it
- instead of pasting it here.
-
- By the way, in order to submit this bug report, I had to use a external
- USB wi-fi adapter. I hope this doesn't cause any confusion in any of the
- attached logs; I did try to generate the attachments with this adapter
- unplugged, and then I plugged it in so I could post to launchpad.
+ lsusb -v attached.
