[Bug 1410940] Re: display driver / video issues in 3.18 (regression from 3.16)

After upgrading to the 3.18 kernel in vivid (currently with
initrd.img-3.18.0-8-generic), hangouts are behaving badly for me. I
suspect this is due to video device performance but that's just a guess.
Things I've noticed:
- * hangouts have horizontal black bars / gitchy video even when just displaying my webcam (before others have joined)
- * mplayer does not show video, but just a black box
- mplayer /usr/share/example-content/Ubuntu_Free_Culture_Showcase/How\ fast.ogg
