[Bug 1153769] Re: perf stat problem - cycles event is not supported
Chris,
Natty is EOL and the fix landed in 2.6.39, so all current releases
should be fine. Can this bug be closed?

Bug description:
When running with the latest Natty kernel 2.6.38-16.67, perf stat doesn't work.
For example:
# perf stat -e cycles ls
Error: cycles event is not supported.
Fatal: Not all events could be opened
The following relevant messages are found in dmesg:
[ 0.494517] Performance Events: PEBS fmt1+, Westmere events, Broken BIOS detected, using software events only.
[ 0.505676] [Firmware Bug]: the BIOS has corrupted hw-PMU resources (MSR 38d is 330)
