  shut down in ubuntu 12.04

Bug description:
  Hi,
  I have this problem since I got my laptop, but I am a begginer so I didnt know it is a problem.
  whenI press shut down in upper right corner it doesnt turn power off but goes back to log in.
  Can anyone help?
