[Bug 1460088] Re: Backlight control does not work on Asus Zenbook Pro UX501JW / Nvidia Geforce GTX 960M
Please note: All fn keys are working in Ubuntu except the brightness
keys + flightmode key, and they do what they are supposed to do.
Keys that work: (Also behave correctly!)
Keyboard-light increase / decrease,
Sound volume increase / decrease & mute.
Trackpad toggle (enable/disable)
Sleep key
Keys that do not work:
Backlight brigthness increase / decrease / toggle (on/off)
Flightmode toggle (on/off)
Troubleshooting below.
Running following command:
xev | sed -n 's/^.*state \([0-9].*\), keycode *\([0-9]\+\) *\(.*\), .*$/keycode \2 = \3, state = \1/p'
Result:
No fn buttons detected.
-----
Running: sudo evtest
Selecting: event12 - Asus WMI hotkeys
Result:
All fn buttons detected, except the 3 hotkeys controlling the brightness. (Increase, decrease & toggle (on/off)). And also the toggle Flight-mode button is not detected.
Not detected = no events triggered
-----
Running: acpi_listen
Result:
All fn buttons detected, except the 3 hotkeys controlling the brightness. (Increase, decrease & toggle (on/off)). And also the toggle Flight-mode button is not detected.
Not detected = no events triggered
------
I have attached the troubleshooting logs above.

Title:
Backlight control does not work on Asus Zenbook Pro UX501JW / Nvidia
Geforce GTX 960M
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Hello!
Backlight control does not work on Asus Zenbook Pro UX501JW / Nvidia
Geforce GTX 960M.
What I mean by this is that the hotkeys for the backlight does not do
anything. The backlight can be manually set while running on the
integrated intel graphics. (Not with hotkeys).
The nvidia GPU is not detected until Nvidias official drivers are
installed. And after installing that driver (any version) the
backlight can not be changed at all.
I hope this can be solved!
