[Bug 1468797] Re: [SKL] starting xterm crashes the xserver
This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves
the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the
results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-
vivid' to 'verification-done-vivid'.
If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will
be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.
See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how
to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

Bug description:
It was observed that starting certain apps (xterm, amdcccle) crash the
xserver on Skylake. Rough bisect showed that 4.1-rc6 was ok while rc5
wasn't, and git bisect found the fixing commit:
commit 061cc3ab4c7b8ed235466134a00b9531766f6c1a
Author: Ingo Molnar <mingo@xxxxxxxxxx>
Date: Wed May 20 11:45:30 2015 +0200
x86/fpu: Disable XSAVES* support for now
while it's also cc'd to stable@, it's needed in the vivid kernel now
to make the (backport) kernel deadline for 14.04.3.
