  package linux-image-3.16.0-43-generic (not installed) failed to
  install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error
  exit status 255

Status in linux-lts-utopic package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  this bug prevents the software updater to run successfully. Using
  'sudo apt-get -f install' and 'sudo apt-get update' and several other
  basic apt-get commands, the list is updated but installing does not
  work.
