[Bug 1508978] [NEW] Logitech Unifying Device not detected

Public bug reported:

So,

My wireless Logitech keyboard with unified receiver is not working
(again!) after installing the Vivid LTS Enablement Stack on Trusty, thus
stepping up from kernel 3.13.0-65-generic to 3.19.0-31-generic.

I got stuck at the LUKS-prompt, so I rebooted in text-mode (it works
fine in the GRUB menu); when I removed the USB receiver and reinsert
it, I get this output:

[ 89.250799] usb 1-10: new full-speed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd
[ 89.380936] usb 1-10: New USB device found, idVendor=046d, idProduct=c52b
[ 89.380957] usb 1-10: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0

And nothing. Keyboard doesn't work.

After rebooting to 3.13, this is what I can see in dmesg:

[ 1.464976] usb 3-10: new full-speed USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd
[ 1.483387] usb 3-10: New USB device found, idVendor=046d, idProduct=c52b

It seems to me that the Logitech driver does not detect the unifying
device or the keyboard correctly in 3.19, as it does in 3.13.

This is not the first time this happens, there's a patch that has been
applied and reverted several times, now it seems someone messed up AGAIN
somewhere between 3.13 and 3.19.
