[Bug 1255700] Re: [HP EliteBook 8740w] suspend/resume failure

Michiel Janssens, as per
http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=4138088&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4060
an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available
(F.50). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it address the issue?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

Also, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status
Confirmed. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
  [HP EliteBook 8740w] suspend/resume failure

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Put system in suspend. Quickly wake it up via sleep button on the keyboard. (within about 3 to 5 seconds) System goes on briefly (about 3 to 5 seconds), crashes and reboots.
This crash happened with the lid closed all the time and a separate keyboard connected.

This issue also happens with the lid open, but mostly I don't have a
separate keyboard connected. In that case it will only wake up by
pushing the power button. Lid opening doesn't trigger a wake, but I
guess I will have to file a separate bug report for that.

WORKAROUND: If I wait much longer (say a minute or longer) before
waking the system, resume works perfectly.

WORKAROUND: Press power button instead of suspend button.
