[Bug 1592923] Re: Display artificats when using external display with Ubuntu 16.04 on Lenovo X1 Carbon (Broadwell)

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream stable kernel?
Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the
latest v4.4 stable kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Title:
Display artificats when using external display with Ubuntu 16.04 on
  Lenovo X1 Carbon (Broadwell)

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in linux source package in Xenial:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
After upgrading this laptop from 14.04 (LTS-Wily X & Kernel stack) to
16.04, I am no longer able to usefully use external displays. There
are artifacts on both displays that get worse with mouse movement.
Upgrading to a 4.7rc3 mainline kernel from the Ubuntu kernel PPA fixed
  the problem.

(I'm using the mini-DP port on the laptop and have tried several
  different converters and monitors.)
