[Bug 1593226] Re: [Acer Aspire ES1-411] Ubuntu freezes occasionally
@ Joseph Salisbury:
I am able to test the latest upstream kernel, but I'm concerned about if
the following is applicable in my current scenario:
========================================
Preparing to install an upstream kernel
First, if one is using select proprietary or out-of-tree modules (ex. vitualbox, nvidia, fglrx, bcmwl, etc.) unless there is an extra package available for the version you are testing, you will need to uninstall the module first, in order to test the mainline kernel. If you do not uninstall these modules first, then the upstream kernel more than likely will not boot.
========================================
I'm using manually installed proprietary drivers for my WiFi card
(attached screenshot), since this is the only way I can connect to the
Internet at this time.
Do you think is it possible not to uninstall this drivers first?

Title:
[Acer Aspire ES1-411] Ubuntu freezes occasionally
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I am running Ubuntu 16.04 and my notebook freezes occasionally. I am
running Ubuntu on an Acer Aspire ES1-411 (P6B1).
There's also an identical Bug filled with Acer Aspire ES1-311 and both
Ubuntu 15.04 & 15.10 by Christian Wansart here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1509723
I have no clue what causes this, my system just freezes and I can't do
anything anymore. When it happens, I have tried the following
secuence without any luck, I have to power down manually:
1. ALT + F2, type xkill + ENTER.
2. Press Alt+Ctrl+F1.
3. While holding Alt and the SysReq (Print Screen) keys, type REISUB.
Last time I was only viewing a Youtube video using Firefox. I checked
some log files but I couldn't find anything suspicious.
Any ideas?
