  Unable to detect Synaptics Touchpad on Ubuntu 14.04, Dell Inspiron

Bug description:
  I have been debugging the touchpad issue by following
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection.

  I can use a USB mouse but, I have not been able to reinstall the
  drivers for touchpad nor have I been able to detect any trace of
  Synaptics on cat /proc/bus/input/devices

  Please find the dmesg attached.
