Strike my statement above (can't find edit).  Install didn't
automatically enable the device.  After a manual "sudo ifconfig eth0 up"
and a "sudo dhclient eth0" it seems to work.

Bug description:
  Asix's AX88179 is an USB3.0 based 10/100/1000M gigabit ethernet
  controller. They provide a Linux driver at their web site
  (http://www.asix.com.tw/products.php?op=pItemdetail&PItemID=131;71;112)
  and it works nicely for me. It would be awesome if Ubuntu would
  include this driver into its kernel package, so that USB adapters
  based on this chip work out of the box.
