Title:
Brightness key combinations for adjustment don't work on netbook
Samsung N210/N230
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
In 11.10 the keys used to adjust the screen birghtness don't work:
Fn + arrow up = increase brightness
Fn + arrow down = decrease brightness
Fn + F5 = toggle backlight
I also noted that Fn + F9, wich should toggle the wifi network
adapter, does not work also.
Proposed solution:
The samsung-laptop module is not loaded automatically since the kernel fail to identify the platform it run on.
I think this issue is the one described in bug #36082 on the kernel bugtracker (can't access it atm, I think the bugzilla has yet to be restored).
The fact is that the N2320 netbook identify itself as N150/N210/N220/N230 but the three other N150, N210 and N220 identify themselves as N150/N210/N220 only.
This is confirmed by running modprobe samsung-laptop, which result in :
FATAL: Error inserting samsung_laptop (/lib/modules/3.0.0-12-generic/kernel/drivers/platform/x86/samsung-laptop.ko): No such device
Also the samsung-laptop module is not in the lsmod result. (cf. attachement).
The patch I send, look at the previously mentioned kernel ticket, fixed this issue for me but I wasn't able to test the control back then. This patch have been pushed to stable few days ago.
