[Bug 1244478] Re: [HP 650 Notebook PC] Kernel 3.2.0-55 is missing driver rt2800pci for Ralink RT3290 Wireless (unclaimed)

HP releasing only windows file .exe to update the BIOS, so is bit difficult now to upgrade as i have only ubuntu on this HP 650.
Btw you think this bug can be considered a duplicate of this? https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1049466/

new bios just fix some windows related problems, so maybe is just an
issue with the wifi module version or dkms Dynamic Kernel Module
Support?

the linked bug can have the final solution to make the wifi work with
new kernels out of the box?

btw is an updated bios is always good, i'll try to upgrade and report as
asked. thanks

Title:
[HP 650 Notebook PC] Kernel 3.2.0-55 is missing driver rt2800pci for
  Ralink RT3290 Wireless (unclaimed)

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Description:	Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS
  Release:	12.04

On a Notebook HP 650 with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit i received updates for kernel 3.2.0-55-generic (exactly 3.2.0-55.85)
and starting the notebook with that kernel results in unavailable connection, no wifi.

Starting from grub with previous kernel (3.2.0-54.82) solve the issue.

  in short:

with 3.2.0-55 kernel, wireless is UNCLAIMED

with previous kernel 3.2.0-54 is working properly and "sudo lshw -C
  network" from terminal report:

   *-network
         description: Wireless interface
         product: RT3290 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe
         vendor: Ralink corp.
         physical id: 0
         bus info: pci@0000:02:00.0
         logical name: wlan0
         version: 00
         serial: xxxxxxx
         width: 32 bits
         clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list ethernet physical wireless
         configuration: broadcast=yes driver=rt2800pci driverversion=3.2.0-54-generic firmware=0.37 ip=xxxxx latency=0 link=yes multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11bgn
         resources: irq:18 memory:52510000-5251ffff

please add driver rt2800pci for Ralink RT3290 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R
  PCIe in future kernel release

  thanks.
