Title:
Laptop suspend fails occasionally
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Binary package hint: acpid
I have a Thinkpad T60 laptop, and using xfce-power-manager have
configured the laptop to suspend always when the lid is closed.
However, after upgrading to XUbuntu 10.10, the laptop occasionally
(maybe once a week) freezes when attempting to suspend. The laptop
often gets very hot, and when opening the lid it finally suspends. A
year or two ago I had a problem that the laptop randomly unsuspended
without opening the lid, but at least in Ubuntu 10.04 I never had any
problems.
The suspend stops at the following position (from dmesg):
[162033.690414] PM: Syncing filesystems ... done.
[162034.083129] PM: Preparing system for mem sleep
[187754.893240] Freezing user space processes ... (elapsed 0.01 seconds) done.
[187754.908100] Freezing remaining freezable tasks ... (elapsed 0.01 seconds) done.
And the same in /var/log/messages:

Attached is a full dmesg dump from a close lid - failed suspend -
opening lid - suspend - resume. (The laptop was accidentally on the
whole night.)
The first time I noticed this was after I had configured my 3G mobile
network over Bluetooth, so it *might* be related to that. However
there are cases where after using 3G I've suspended and resumed
successfully, and only later the suspend fails.
