I'm going to close this, due to how in Trusty when one jiggles the power
cord and it sent a shutdown signal stopped. However, the Power Button
problem remains. I'll open a new report against an xfce settings package
as this would be more appropriate.

  [Acer Aspire 5750-9668] Laptop shuts down immediately when power
  button pressed despite set otherwise

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  What is expected to happen is when one adjusts the power cord slightly
  is the computer doesn't shutdown.

  What happens instead is looks like it received a shutdown event.
  Previously, when I was using Raring with an HDD i386, a message would
  pop up asking if I wanted to shutdown, which I didn't. However, now
  that I'm using an SSD, it just immediately starts shutting down
  without my being able to either prevent the event altogether, or say
  no. This also occurs when pressing the power button.

  This is despite having the following set:
  Applications Menu -> Settings Manager -> Power Manager -> General ->
  When power button is pressed: Ask
  When power button is pressed: Do nothing

  WORKAROUND: Don't click the Power button or jiggle the point where the
  power cord meets the board.
