Title:
[Toshiba Satellite A205-S5000] USB headset crashes X

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
This originally happened with my USB mouse, but somehow it doesn't
happen anymore, but the exact same thing still happens when I plug in
  a Plantronics USB headset.

When I plug in the USB headset everything quits out and I'm left with
a black screen that lists a few things about setting IRQ priorities,
but most importantly it states "Stopping System V Runlevel
  compatibilit[OK]"

Once I remove the device it lists a bunch of identical error messages
about generic-usb, with the hardware address, and states that it can't
  reset the device.

If I try to boot with the USB headset plugged in I see the boot splash
image, then it kicks me back to TTY1.

In all cases I'm able to restart XFCE with "sudo service lightdm
restart" but everything I was running at the time of the crash has
been closed. There are no logs in /var/crash, and .xsession-errors
doesn't list anything new after the crash, and dmesg has no new output
during the crash. The only trace that anything has crashed was found
in /var/log/syslog, which I've pasted here:
  http://pastebin.com/cNTrYBG1

A little background, I recently wiped 10.04 from my Toshiba Satellite
A205 to install 12.04, the USB headset was working well before the
upgrade. The LiveDVD will not run with the headset plugged in either.
After the crash I am able to switch to TTY1 and run lsusb and see that
Plantronics IS listed there. Help troubleshooting this problem would
be appreciated as I'm out of ideas. I tried asking the question on
AskUbuntu at Stack Exchange, but was referred to Launchpad:
  http://askubuntu.com/questions/124042/plugging-in-usb-mouse-or-usb-
  headset-crashes-xserver-in-fresh-install-of-12-04

I'm not entirely convinced this is a bug since I'm unable to find anybody else having similar symptoms.
