Message #47381
[Bug 1286590] [NEW] Installed version of linux_firmware is 1.79.9, but Software Updater is asking to install 1.79.11. What?
Public bug reported:
Please if you can help. My Software Updater is asking me to revert to a
lower number for this package (linux-firmware to 1.79.11) than the
currently installed version (1.79.9). However, there is no trace of a
"1.79.9" in the repository. This is such a critical security file that
it has caught my attention.
How is this possible? Has my system been hacked or something? I assume
this is a bug, smells like a bug, it's highly illogical, etc. Does
anyone know anything about this?
The package is linux_firmware
And my release is: 12.04.4 Precise kernal - 3.11.0-17-generic
#31~precise1
Curiously, 2 weeks ago I did a complete system rebuild with a fresh ISO
of Precise 12.04 LTS, so this would probably have come directly from
that recently downloaded ISO/DVD image.
Thanks so much for your time.
Warm Regards,
John
