[Bug 1292870] Re: WiFi sometimes connects, sometimes doesn't, sometimes stops, Kernel bug
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We need some more information from you before we can
start working on this bug.
Please run the following command which will attach necessary
information:
apport-collect BUGNUMBER
if you are using Karmic Koala (9.10) or newer, or
apport-collect -p linux-image-`uname -r` BUGNUMBER
if you are using Hardy Heron (8.04)
Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib
package from the universe repository with 'sudo apt-get install python-
launchpadlib'. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your
bug report.
If you are using an older release or cannot use apport please at least add the following information (pay attention to lspci's additional options):
First run the following commands:
1) uname -a > uname-a.log
2) dmesg > dmesg.log
3) sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log
4) cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
then attach the files separately to the bug report (not pasted into comments or tar/zip-ed).
For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-
related bug reports is available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies. Thanks in
advance!

Title:
WiFi sometimes connects, sometimes doesn't, sometimes stops, Kernel
bug
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I am using an old Sony TR1MP 32bit laptop, ubuntu 12.04 (the system is
not supported by later ubuntu versions).
I use a Micronet wireless USB dongle since the inbuilt wifi is very
slow, and is disabled by blacklisting it. The dongle shows if it is
working since it flashes blue when it does.
Lately the wifi connection often fails at boot, with the system not
attempting to connect (the dongles does not light up). Sometimes it
works, and then drops out later. Sometimes it reconnects by itself,
sometimes not. Sometimes removing the dongle, waiting and then
reinserting it works, sometimes not.
Looking at syslog, I see the attached Kernel errors when the
connection fails. The problem seems to have got worse recently. The
wifi has always been a little unstable, but is now nearly unusable.
I will gladly supply more information if someone can tell me precisely
what is needed. I'm not an expert at linux, but not totally useless
at it either.
