[Bug 1302103] Re: 'Synaptic SMBus Touchpad' on laptop 'Medion Akoya P7631' not detected after clean install of Ubunutu 13.10

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.14 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Title:
'Synaptic SMBus Touchpad' on laptop 'Medion Akoya P7631' not detected
after clean install of Ubunutu 13.10

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
'Synaptic SMBus Touchpad' (as detected by Windows 8.1 installation) on
machine 'Medion Akoya P7631' doesn't work after a clean install of
  Ubunutu 13.10.

Having looked at the output from /proc/bus/input/devices it seems like
the touchpad device is not being recognised at all.

The touchpad is functional and worked as normal on a version of
windows 8.1 running on the same machine.
