Message #54738
[Bug 1295998] Re: linux-generic (and dependencies) is not automatically installed
i did some more tests again to make things clear:
downloaded Xubuntu 14.04 32 and 64 bit
- installed the 64 Bit version into an VM, make shure to *do not* check the box "install updates while installation"
- installed Synaptics via Terminal and the VirtualBox extensions to get an better resolution; reboot
- check the package sources: main, universe, restricted, multiverse, switched to main server
- check the additional software: Canonical-partner and independant
- check updates: security, updates, proposed, backports
- close Synaptic, open a Terminal, check for updates
--> 345 aktualisiert, 0 neu installiert, 0 zu entfernen und 10 nicht aktualisiert.
- check for dist-upgrades
--> 355 aktualisiert, 28 neu installiert, 0 zu entfernen und 0 nicht aktualisiert.
so the upgrade process for the kernel works and would be upgraded from
3.13.0-19 to -24.
i thought, the "linux-generic" is missing so this could not work.
sorry for buging - i set the bug report to invalid.
