[Bug 1313196] [NEW] Wireless switch not working on HP ProBook 450 G1

Public bug reported:

Using Ubuntu 13.10 on a HP ProBook 450 G1 notebook.
This system has a button to enable and disable the WLAN interface. This button has a led on it: it's white when the WLAN is enabled, orange when it is not.
Pressing this button, however, does not have any effect on both Ubuntu 13.10 and Mint 16 KDE (which is also based on Ubuntu 13.10).
When I press this button, the following output is produced in dmesg:

[ 1536.228861] atkbd serio0: Unknown key pressed (translated set 2, code 0xf8 on isa0060/serio0).
[ 1536.228872] atkbd serio0: Use 'setkeycodes e078 <keycode>' to make it known.
[ 1536.308669] atkbd serio0: Unknown key released (translated set 2, code 0xf8 on isa0060/serio0).
[ 1536.308680] atkbd serio0: Use 'setkeycodes e078 <keycode>' to make it known.

I can use rfkill block/unblock to enable/disable the WLAN interface.

There's just a minor difference in behaviour between Ubuntu and Mint:
while in Mint the led correcly turns white when the WLAN interface is
enabled (and the outcome of "rfkill block/unblock" is correctly
reflected by the button led colour), in Ubuntu this led seems to always
stay orange, even if the WLAN interface is active (and connection is
correctly estabilished). Please note that I only tried to run Ubuntu
from a USB stick (no installation at all, no update performed).

Please note that beside this wireless button there's another one to
mute/unmute the system (this has a white/orange led on it too). This
second button works perfectly on both systems (led colour is coherent
and the audio output is muted/unmuted accordingly).

This is a follow up to bug #1246143 as requested by Christopher
Penalver. That bug describes the same problem on a different HP system.
