[Bug 1324922] Re: [ASRock ION 330] Cannot turn on PC after hibernating Lubuntu 14.04 LTS
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.
However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is such a request.
With the recent release of this Ubuntu release, would like to confirm
if this bug is still present. Please test again with the newer kernel
and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not.
You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the
following commands in a terminal window:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to
Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from
Incomplete to Fix Released.
If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add
a tag named: bot-stop-nagging.
Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.
** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
Status: Confirmed => Incomplete

Title:
[ASRock ION 330] Cannot turn on PC after hibernating Lubuntu 14.04 LTS
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
My nettop PC (ASrock ION330) occasionally shuts down into a state out
of which I can only recover it by removing the BIOS battery (and
inserting it again after a minute). The power button doesn't work, all
three LEDs on the keyboard are lit up (but the power LED isn't), the
whole system seems to be off but frozen in a state where it cannot be
turned on again. I have tried to narrow this problem down to the
hibernation process (and not some other utility running before or
after hibernation) by editing `/etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh` and replacing
its contents with
sudo pm-hibernate
exit 0
so I know it is actually running the hibernation process when I press
the power button. And every now and then it actually works, but just
as often I have to kill the BIOS battery.
I have looked for a newer BIOS version (just in case it's the mainboards
power management going berserk) but I seem to already have much newer
versions than available at http://www.asrock.com/nettop/overview.asp?Model=ION%20330&cat=Download&os=BIOS, where the newest version is from 9/7/2009:
$ sudo dmidecode
...
BIOS Information
Vendor: American Megatrends Inc.
Version: P1.10
Release Date: 11/24/2009
...
I have tried replacing the `nvidia` GPU driver with the OSS `nouveau`
driver, but the problem still occurs (and the nouveau driver is too unstable, hibernating crashes it reliably after resume).
I have also updated to the newest mainline kernel (see below) and this
does not help - it only makes the problem appear more reliably, every
single hibernation process triggered it (instead of only sometimes).
