[Bug 1335486] [NEW] Black screen after suspend/resume on Linux Mint 17

Public bug reported:

This appears to be same as Bug #1283938
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1283938). After
resume computer is responsive, but there is no screen display. I am able
to shut down using keyboard commands. Adding nomodeset to boot allows
successful resume/suspend, but OS runs without hardware acceleration. Is
there a way to fix this without leaving nomodeset all the time?
