Title:
FW for Intel Wireless 7260 v8 missing
Status in “linux-firmware” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
On ubuntu 14.04 the linux-firmware package versions 1.127.3 (trusty-
proposed) and 1.127.2 (trusty-security) don't contain
/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-7260-8.ucode
which is firmware version 22.15.8.0 [1] / 22.24.8.0 [2] for Intel
Wireless-AC 7260 (on my Thinkpad E540 Haswell machine) needed for the
current 3.13 kernel for the device to work properly (see Bug #1271257,
which was previously fixed by adding this firmware ...)
Even though the latest firmware version 23.214.9.0 was included in the
latest package version (1.127.3) and this one should in theory run on
3.13 it is not yet used by the driver since the appropriate patch [3]
has not yet made it into the stable kernel according to [2].
Update_0: I found out that version 8 was removed because it was seen
as a regression by some users of the Intel Wireless-N/-AC 7260 (mainly
Dell XPS 12/13 users, see Bug #1293569).
Update_1: Bug #1325200 describes the same problem, but here I gathered
and summarized all the needed information I think.
