[Bug 1338574] Re: ASUS PCE-N15 low throughput in Precise

Frank Pope, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.16-rc6

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

Title:
ASUS PCE-N15 low throughput in Precise

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Right after reboot the download speed test reports 20 Mbps. A few
minutes later it drops to 2 Mbps. PCE-N15 has RealTek RTL8188CE and
the driver module is rtl8192ce which appears to support this chip. I
have always tested this by restarting and rerunning the OOKLA speed
test. The wireless router is a UBEE and supports 11b and 11g only

I've read enough to see this appears to be an ongoing issue and I've tried most all the "fixes" I've found to no avail.
Even web page video stutters and breaks up.

  info on my system is:

  sudo lshw -C network; lsb_release -a; uname -a
