Message #82076
[Bug 1373332] Re: libatasmart4 reanables SMART when reading SMART information from HDD.
** Description changed:
1) Ubuntu Version:
Description: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
Release: 14.04
2) Package Version
libatasmart4:
- Installiert: 0.19-3
- Installationskandidat: 0.19-3
- Versionstabelle:
- *** 0.19-3 0
- 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main i386 Packages
- 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
+ Installiert: 0.19-3
+ Installationskandidat: 0.19-3
+ Versionstabelle:
+ *** 0.19-3 0
+ 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main i386 Packages
+ 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
3) What I expected to happen:
libatasmart4 won't read from devices with have SMART disabled (because sometimes SMART needs to be disabled as workaround, see for example https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udisks2/+bug/1373318)
4) What happened instead:
- libatasmart4 reenables SMART on devices that have SMART disabled. libatasmart4 should second guess the user on this...
+ libatasmart4 reenables SMART on devices that have SMART disabled. (libatasmart4 shouldn't second guess the user on this...)
Can be verified with
sudo smartctl --smart=off /dev/sdb
sudo smartctl --all /dev/sdb | grep "SMART support"
sudo skdump --overall /dev/sdb
sudo smartctl --all /dev/sdb | grep "SMART support"
--
