Message #81465
[Bug 1373332] [NEW] libatasmart4 reanables SMART when reading SMART information from HDD.
Public bug reported:
1) Ubuntu Version:
Description: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
Release: 14.04
2) Package Version
libatasmart4:
Installiert: 0.19-3
Installationskandidat: 0.19-3
Versionstabelle:
*** 0.19-3 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
3) What I expected to happen:
libatasmart4 won't read from devices with have SMART disabled (because sometimes SMART needs to be disabled as workaround, see for example https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udisks2/+bug/1373318)
4) What happened instead:
libatasmart4 reenables SMART on devices that have SMART disabled. libatasmart4 should second guess the user on this...
Can be verified with
sudo smartctl --smart=off /dev/sdb
sudo smartctl --all /dev/sdb | grep "SMART support"
sudo skdump --overall /dev/sdb
sudo smartctl --all /dev/sdb | grep "SMART support"
** Affects: libatasmart (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
